The most magical things that’s happened this month (September 2025)

As my frontal lobe develops, I am iterating the importance of finding everything important. This month, I will attempt to begin a practice of noting them by the month. I hope to stop being so much of a selfless little prick in the process.

  1. I finally cleaned out the studio room. I made one painting in there for a show and worked on some tattoo flash. Sometimes the cat litter dust is too strong in there, but I should try to get over it. Roxxy left a gaming chair when she moved out, and I feel very smart when I sit in that chair and do work.
  2. I made a painting. It made me forget why I dreaded it so much. I had a deadline and that made things easier. I enjoy resolution within a time constraint. I felt like I could almost be a painter again.
  3. I got a new bookshelf. It is narrow on top and becomes wider at the bottom. It’s a funny and lovely shape. I put all my most important trinkets on there and a new alphabet cat book for children on there.
  4. I got my hair cut. I had an asymmetrical cut all summer and I loved it when people couldn’t tell what was going on. The straight bob feels recession chic to me, and I’ve been learning a lot about flappers.
  5. I wore all black intentionally on two separate occasions for friends themed parties. It was insanely freaky to me but I did really enjoy it. Can’t imagine wearing it in the summer though, it’s so hot.
  6. My friend Nate was in town. He is awesome.
  7. I helped set up and be apart of my friends collective’s group exhibition. So many people came. It was a very long but gratifying day.
  8. My friends and I went to the rave and all our outfits coordinated. I had a blueberry Brie grilled cheese that day.
  9. I caught up with Grace who I haven’t seen in years. I missed her a lot!
  10. Magali took some photos of me. I don’t know what they look like but the outfits were really fun. I wore these hot pink earrings and a lot of polka dots.
  11. I had barbecue at the farmers market and a lot of pluots. The meat was really good but the Mac and cheese was really salty. You cannot have everything you want in life.
  12. While Sora was dancing at the lesbian bar, I snuck away to eat a kebab. I didn’t realize it was going to be a whole 25 minute lamb chop roast ordeal and I sat there in silence, watching the small artisanal fountain splash back at me while this close knit Armenian family smoked cigarettes. My boyfriend asked why I didn’t join them.
  13. Happy birthday Lino. Albert sold me these snail bookends that are so cute. They aren’t actually snails but in theory they are snails. Everyone should watch the movie life of snail. It’s so fucked I’m but what the hell sure.
  14. I hung out with my purple hair neighbor for the first time after being parking garage neighbors for 4 years. She’s wonderful and gave me a numerology reading. I’m trying to channel the fact that I’m supposedly a visionary. I’d like to think so.
  15. I worked the girl violence worldwide tattoo event. It’s funny I submitted a watercolor portrait of her for my AP art portfolio, I got a 5. I’m Chinese and a real academic.
  16. I met up with my mom’s friend who’s an art advisor. We had diet cokes at the Roosevelt hotel pool.
  17. Priyanka and I made our way through downtown and to the east side for a show. I met her dog. I saw Serafina, who I haven’t seen in years. I had a slice of meat lovers pizza and a Diet Coke.
  18. Emma and I had craft night. She brought me out of a deep depression by being just her wonderful self.
  19. JJ and I saw Mysterious Skin at the Academy Museum. I wore a blazer and I felt so chic. There was this girl that asked us to take a video of her meeting Greg Araki.
  20. Alyssa came to town. We’ve actually never hung out individually before and this was really one of the first times. We went to Akbar with Jake and then to Rhythm 2 Revolt. I needed to eat a hot dog before dancing and Alyssa waited for me.
  21. Jill and I went to Serafina’s photo book meetup. Serafina’s dad is awesome and made me a great burger. I ate a lot of beans, saw gorgeous photographs of Los Angeles.
  22. My first time at Dollar Hits is with Toby and Nkosi. I am glad I got to share this experience with them. They are such sweeties and I want the world to flourish for them.
  23. THE RAPTURE
  24. THE VERTICAL VIDEO AND BAGELS OUTSIDE
  25. Giant pot of cabbage soup.
  26. Rosh Hashanah at Louise and Alex’s was wonderful. Louise is such a great host, I aspire to be like her. I do not like doing dishes. I don’t know why I never ate apples with honey! It is delightful.
  27. I made pancakes with the baking powders and sodas and everything. No syrup so I tried using sugar free vanilla syrup.
  28. Jake and I got this fruit fried chicken where there were ginormous TVs all around us. Kpop, sports and animals. That’s America baby.
  29. LCD Soundsystem for the second time.
  30. Bummed a cigarette off this guy whose name I forgot. He told me why he liked American spirits. He says, one day of the week, he sits there and smokes it and really enjoys it.
  31. JC and Claire, my tattooed darlings
  32. Toni at the bookstore gave me this book cookie, as in the cover of a book imprinted on the icing of a cookie. I took one bite, not that good, but awesome.
  33. I went out with Max and his friends. I rolled my ankles so fucking hard, twice. And we saw these great dogs at the house Rob was playing at.
  34. Our closet sale was very fun and rewarding:) we were scared people weren’t gonna show up but I saw many friends and the parents at the kids party next to us bought things from us too. And we had chicken wraps
  35. Saw Sascha. Love that white girl
  36. The leather cleaners in Inglewood fixed my bag despite two other cleaners rejecting my request. Miracles do happen

I find it convenient to be overwhelmed with sulk—oh, if I could lay on this futon forever and forget about it. Recalling back to all the wonderful things I got to do with my loved ones, I feel a bit less sad today. I feel like I defeated the adjective of most when I list off everything as magical, but I really do see it that way.  I really want to.
